Happy Halloween Students!

The judging is complete and the results are in!

Thanks to all the students who worked on and submitted PSAs. We had 43 in total. This was the biggest PSA challenge we have had so far. It was definitely hard to judge with all the great submissions. It is our hope that seeing what other schools and students are doing will inspire you and open up discussions about various filmmaking and storytelling techniques. We are looking forward to the New Hampshire High School Short Film Festival and your short film.Β

2022 HALLOWEEN PSA CHALLENGE WINNERS!

THIRD PLACE πŸ‘ΎπŸ†

Trick or Treats

Concord High School

CREW

Cecily Schultz

CAST:

Sarah May Schultz, and William Schultz

Notes from the Judge:

This vintage classic style PSA uses a "Show the Problem" format. The voice over has a old-timey PSA sound and feel. -- I loved the candy gags. They were strong enough to distract you from the fact that they just put an alien in a box. the ending could have been a bit more chaotic when the alien escapes and attacks, while the calm voice-over continues the lesson. Also, there was one great close up shot of the alien's eye that I would have ended on, with a "Don't Eat Strange Candy" title.

The Alien Candy Giver

Notes from the Judge:

This animated PSA follows the "Show the Problem" format. It has great editing when you consider all the things you have to think about while shooting 1 frame at a time. This feels like the student put a lot of effort into planning and execution. The story was simple and complete. The character had an inner conflict disobeying his mother even when he said he wouldn't. Typical kid...

Notes from the Judge:

I would not normally give a single, lock-down shot PSA a second look, but this totally grabbed my attention. This simple PSA is a work of art in my opinion. I know many will have a tough time with the simplicity of the video. It is a straightforward PSA using a recall warning message. The character's silly puppet hand gives it a silly B-movie feel, but the end has a serious and disturbing sci-fi twist, which is perfect for a Halloween PSA. Excellent work with the audio effect. Loved it.
